SERGERS
Overlocking is three sewing tasks done at the same time and done quickly! A seam is sewn to join layers of fabric, the edge is trimmed and then oversewn to prevent fraying, all while offering the operator the benefit of two sets of feed dogs to manipulate the fabric as desired!
Some machines are cover stitch capable. The coverstitch is found on clothing such as T-shirt, sports clothing and loose stretchy items. The standard coverstitch has two or three rows of stitches which are 5 or 2.5 mm apart on one side and with decorative stitching on the other side. Frequently used on the hems of T-shirts and sportswear and for sewing elastic, the coverstitch capability is a real plus for many sewers.
So, whether you are sewing children's clothes, T-shirts, body-clinging swim or exercise wear, silk scarves or rolled hem napkins, for sewing speed on stretchy seams, fabrics that fray or even for attaching sequins or beads, an overlock machine is the answer.
